OUR APPROACH TO OUR PROFESSION:
Our approach is Psychodynamic. Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist are skilled in assessment and treatment of children and young people and are trained to carefully observe them and respond to what they may be communicating verbally and through their behaviour and play. The work is adapted to the individual child/adolescent's developmental stage. Younger children, for example, may play with the toys provided or draw, whilst teenagers might talk about their feelings. To a trained eye, play is a powerful form of communication which may express how children feel and the difficulties they may be experiencing.
The therapy setting becomes a safe place to work though feelings and worries. As much as possible, the therapist will try to keep the setting and time of the session the consistant.
The relationship between the child and therapist is central to the treatment. It is through this relationship that a child or young person can be helped to understand him/her self and manage feelings and behaviour more effectively. This can lead to improvement in their capacity to learn and to relate to friends and family.
We will be happy to consult with the other professionals when needed if the young person/parent have given their agreement.
